How to Start Using VoIP Phones

voip-phone-system

You’ve done your research and have come to the conclusion that a VoIP phone system is perfect for your growing business. The next step is purchasing and setting up this money-saving phone system.

Step 1: First things first, make sure you have a good internet connection. Since the phone system will use your Internal Protocol (IP) you will need to have an acceptable amount of bandwidth. This will allow for smooth, uninterrupted calls.

Step 2: Now you have to make the important decision of choosing a service provider. The provider should be able to present you with multiple options and tailor their services to your specific needs. You can choose between cloud-based, device-based, mobile, etc.

Step 3: Once you have chosen a service provider and a specific service you can get your equipment. A traditional system will involve either an ATA adapter for your current phone or a new set of special VoIP phones. However, if you’re using your computer to place calls then all you’ll need are speakers and a headset/microphone.

Step 4: If you’re using an actual telephone system then you will need to get a phone number. This can be done once your phone system has been set up with your service provider. Now you’ll be able to make and receive calls from all types of phones, not just from a computer.

Step 5: Setting everything up is usually an easy process. If you are strictly using your computer to make phone calls then all you have to do is download the software. If you are using an actual telephone then you’ll need to plug both the phone and internet router into the ATA adapter. From here you can additionally download the computer software to help tweak any current settings.
