Prepare For The Call
Do not expect to get on an important conference call and just wing it. Instead, you should prepare thoroughly for this meeting. To do so, create an agenda for the call. Not only will this assist you organize the call into different sections, it will also let the participants of the call understand the flow and structure of the call. Furthermore, do extensive research on the topic at hand. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Establish Conference Call Etiquette
At the beginning of the call, it is a good idea to establish proper conference call etiquette. Let all the participants know that they should mute their line. This will eliminate the possibility of hearing distracting background noises, such as typing. In addition, advise participants to unmute their line and state their name if they have a question. Last but not least, do not talk while someone else is talking. Talking over someone could be interpreted as rude.

Engage With The Participants
It is easy to assume that the leader of the call will do all of the talking. However, this is not the case! In order to have a successful call, the leader of the call should also welcome comments from the participants. This will make the call more interactive for both parties. Effective communication is a two-way street that requires both speaking and active listening.
