Tips For Having A Phone Call With A Pessimistic Person

Talking to clients on the phone regularly is a must for maintaining strong business relationships. However, this can be difficult when the client has a negative demeanor. Below are some tips that can help you have a pleasant phone conversation with a pessimistic person.

Show Empathy
If a client starts off a phone call with a complaint, be sure to acknowledge their dissatisfaction. This will help you show the client that you are empathetic to their needs. In the same breath, remember to offer up a positive solution to their problem.

Switch To A Different Topic
If the client is unhappy with your attempt to make the situation better, change the subject. There is no point in having the client dwell on the same issue. Switching a different topic can also distract the client from thinking about their current dilemma.

Be Professional
A pessimistic client may also start venting about their personal life on the phone. If you encounter this, do your best to steer the conversation towards work-related tasks. It will help remind the client that you are a business professional through and through.
